Lose weight eating healthy – How to make right food choices

I have heard a lot of stories from people all over the world trying hundreds of diet programs to lose weight fast for many years, and many of them after all, not only have suffered terribly psychologically but also physically.

Some of these people’s stories and similarities corroborate the overview results of what I am saying. Making me consider it crucial to find out, as well as figure out from a holistic point of view, which is our relationship with food, where do we eat from, and why are we doing a diet. To become more aware of ways to lose weight by eating healthy in the long term.

My purpose is to show you what aspects to enhance to achieve this goal:

  1. Healthy food choices
  2. Responsibility for what you eat
  3. Responsibility for your emotions
  4. Do some exercise

1. Healthy food choices

What I mean by healthy food choices, it´s asking ourselves for example which is our criterion when choosing food from the shopping cart whenever we go to the supermarket. This is a fundamental factor to take into consideration, because sometimes we buy food instinctively, and perhaps making a few small conscious changes in our basket can contribute to losing weight by doing a healthier choice.

Do you choose whole or refined foods? Do you eat more meat in all your meals? Is bread a fundamental requirement as an accompaniment to your meals?

Let´s focus on a few important tips:

  • Give priority to whole foods, because they will provide you with more nutrients and are more satisfying.
  • Choose organic, local, and seasonal foods to avoid GM Os and possible herbicides or pesticides.
  • When choosing fruit and vegetables, avoid pieces that have been plucked or maybe picked early ripening in chambers.
  • Take into consideration the nutritional value of the food, and also its energetic one.
  • Get used to reading labels to find out food contents, even if they look really healthy. As if they have very high sugar and saturated fats percentage. You are better off leaving them behind.
  • Watch what you drink as well, because not only the food has calories, and certain soft drinks just like coke have a lot of sugar in them.

2. Responsibility for what you eat

Whenever you take responsibility for something, it´s when you take control, and therefore take action doing something about it, as well as considering it among certain priorities within your daily life.

Make yourself responsible of having an orderly diet is for example:

  1. Breakfast @ 8:00
  2. Appetizer @ 11:00
  3. Lunch @ 14:00
  4. Snack @ 17:00
  5. Dinner @ 20:00

I don´t mean that this schedule is the ideal one, nor that you have to eat 5 times a day if you are not hungry. What is essential is to accustom our body, as if it were our temple, to a schedule of food and sleep in harmony with its biorhythms.

Otherwise, your body will unbalance and will therefore suffer!

3. Responsibility for your emotions

According to the theory of the 5 elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Each of them is intrinsically associated with an organ, certain emotions, tastes, and foods.

The state of each organ is interrelated with an emotional state, and this is important to know, to realize that certain emotions do definitely influence us to eat certain foods or having a preference for specific tastes.

I will give you an example:

Imagine, when you have times of stress and worry, those could give you a little anxiety within your life, and you could tend to overindulge yourself in sweet products. You psychologically think that eating them will relax you, and if you don´t have control over them, you will keep eating them. Thus, I definitely don´t recommend you to eat those if you want to lose weight, due to being empty calories…

What can you do to keep yourself more stable emotionally?

  1. Be in silence with yourself for a minimum of 5 minutes a day. Whether is meditating, reading, or doing nothing at all.
  2. Keep yourself active mentally.
  3. Be in touch with nature at least once a month if not every day.
  4. Don´t get yourself trapped in assiduous discussions.
  5. Hang around with people who bring you positivism.

4. Do some exercise

We all know the benefits of making exercise, whether it´s running, walking, swimming, yoga, pilates, cross-fit, basketball, or even a portable home gym, and easily bring the GYM to you!

The fact is that if you don´t make any exercise, it´s going to be hard to activate your metabolism, blocking one of the fundamental pillars to lose weight.

I am going to share a great recipe to help you out with this:

  • Book an hour of your day to make some exercise.
  • Choose an activity that you connect with. I personally connect with Yoga and I highly recommend it, as I have been a regular Yoga Iyengar practitioner for many years gaining great mental and physical effects.
  • Think about the pleasurable sensations after exercising, such as losing weight in the long term, boosting your mood, and sleeping much better
  • Start progressively from less to more each day, without overloading yourself.

Try to enjoy the process, and think about the amazing reasons to do it for!

Compromise with yourself!

I love this powerful word COMPROMISE, and especially when it is applied to oneself. Because at the end of the day no matter what you do in your life, or your goals are. It´s important to have a compromise with yourself together with perseverance. Even, if sometimes we want quick results

I invite you to take into consideration:

Lose weight healthy, interrelating it to the long-term benefits of choosing and educating yourself about food choices. And adopting and maintaining good habits both in your diet, in your emotional stability, and the practice of physical exercise.

Because well-being and feeling good are basic ingredients for a better quality of life within our lifestyle.

Remember, an idea doesn´t change anything, although a decision changes everything!

Have a beautiful day, and if you have any doubts please do share them with me.

Love always,

Mónica :-))
